Hybrid Booster Drive

The hybrid booster drive is a system composed of three major components, ultra capacitor, motor-generator and inverter-controller. This system utilizes hybrid vehicle technology (patent applied for) developed by the Electric Vehicle Institute at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Shown is a .9 Farad 200 volt Tavrima ultra capacitor module The ultra capacitor is a maintenance free alternative to batteries. Proven in NASA tests, Tavrima offers rugged economically priced units available today in a variety of capacities.


The uniqueness of the Hybrid Booster Drive is the design of three major components and the incorporation of control logic to produce a hybrid vehicle drive system that can utilize ultra capacitate energy storage devices without addition of buck-boost or other similar electronic hardware between capacitor and electronic drive components to convert variable voltage power to fixed voltage power.


POWER CONTROLLER

Shown is a 100 kw rated, liquid cooled inverter/controller. This unit incorporates both the control logic and components in a small package. No inefficient and costly buck boost unit is needed.


When incorporated into a vehicle, powered by an optimized engine driving through an automatic transmission.

This configuration offers the advantage of an ultra capacitor parallel hybrid drive in a compact, economical package.


LIQUID COOLED ELECTRIC MOTOR

Shown is an 80 kw liquid cooled 3 phase motor/gear reducer. The gear box can be direct coupled to the PTO of an automatic transmission or is offered with a drive shaft coupling. This compact light weight design allows the vehicle designer maximum flexibility in placement.
